Till the thirteenth century, Venice Italy was built on a group of islands separated by channels where wooden boards were laid down connecting opposite sides. Later many bridges were built but not one of them joined the banks of the Gran Canal.

And so the best architects of that period where called in and The Rialto Bridge was created. Foundations began in 1588, and 3 years later on its completion the banks of the Gran Canal where finally joined. From this moment on it proved to be a solid structure symbolising great strength and has proved invaluable to the people of Venice for trade and progress.
